AST Architecture and Telematic Services Research Group
Our research group merges a multidisciplinar team which tackles key investigation lines of telematic services. We mainly work in distributed systems where we have experience in scalable systems (cloud computing, peer-to-peer), web-based infrastructures and mobile and wireless communications. In this field the group is very active and has participated in european (POPEYE) and national (PLANET, P2PGRID, DELFIN) research projects. We publish in top conferences and journals (IEEE P2P, ICDCS, Europar, Elsevier FGCS, Elsevier Computer Networks, IEEE Internet Computing) and the group maintains active collaborations with top research groups (EPFL, Eurecom, INRIA, Trento) in this area. Furthermore, four PhD thesis were finished in the group in the last years.
We are also pragmatic engineers that enjoy experimental research and technology transfer projects. We developed a number of open source software projects that are widely used by third-parties around the world. We outline as examples the Previrnec tele-rehabilitation platform, the PlanetSim P2P Simulator, the M-Channel MANET wireless middleware, the MRPlanet Augmented Reality tool, or the CloudSnap Web deployment infrastructure.
Finally, the group is also active in collaborative distributed systems and human computer interaction. The group produced an spin-off (Eidola) that focuses on multimodal interaction with augmented reality and interactive sensors. Furthermore, we maintain a continued technology transfer activity with the Institut Guttman in tele-rehabilitation activities. In the context of this collaboration we produced the Previrnec system that is now used in eight hospitals in Spain. We continue the collaboration with Guttman in a number of technology transfer projects (Avanza, Innpacto, Marato TV3).
