Abstract
This paper presents a framework to deploy and manage distributed applications using middleware-level overlays. The purpose of the framework is to simplify the selfmanagement of multiple applications co-existing within the same overlay. Self-management is a crucial challenge for systems where resource churn and system complexity preclude management by humans. In this paper, we concern both (i) application self-management in the context of dynamic environment, and (ii) dynamic provisioning of resources for the deployment of community-based distributed applications. This requires to monitor, analyze and reconfigure the system automatically by embedded control loops both at the level of resource management and at the level of application self-management.
